Polk County will host East Wilkes in the opening round of the state 1AA playoffs, according to official brackets released Saturday by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association.
The Wolverines received the seventh seed in the 1AA West bracket and will host the 10th-seeded Cardinals. Polk County defeated East Wilkes 33-16 in the first round of last season’s playoffs.
The Cardinals finished 5-6 this season and tied for third in the Mountain Valley 2A/1A Conference.
Undefeated East Surry is the top seed in the 1AA West. Mitchell is the second seed in the 1AA West and will host the Polk County-East Wilkes winner in the second round.
