The Polk County Middle School cross country team is selling T-shirts to honor the memory of Ellis Miller, a student and team member who died in a car accident in January.
Miller was a member of the middle school cross country team and a devoted volunteer at Foothills Humane Society, where she loved spending time with animals.
This year’s cross country T-shirts, designed with the help of Yetees Ink in Mill Spring, feature a quote from Miller. She was passionate about running and had been working on a passion project on distance running in Jeanne Ferran’s ELA class. Though she was never able to present the project, her mother shared a video of Miller practicing her presentation in her backyard, and the quote on the shirts was taken from that video.

A portion of the proceeds will go to Foothills Humane Society toward the construction of Ellis Miller’s Puppy Playground. The Humane Society is currently raising money to build the playground in Miller’s name and remains about $20,000 short of its goal.
Shirts are $20 each, and orders will be taken through August 19. Shirts must be paid for before the order is submitted. Payment can be made by cash or by check made out to the PCMS Cross Country Team.
Those who would prefer to make a donation without purchasing a shirt can write a check to the PCMS Cross Country Team with “Puppy Playground” in the memo line. One hundred percent of those donations will go to the Humane Society.
