
Caleb Potter led Polk County’s boys cross country team to victory Tuesday in the RS/Armentrout Invitational at R-S Central High School.
Despite a warm afternoon with the temperature 85 degrees at the start of the race, the well-hydrated Wolverines raced to victory in the 10-team field, finishing ahead of R-S Central and Chesnee, S.C.
Potter took top honors on the hilly course with a time of 18:34.43, finishing some 45 seconds ahead of R-S Central freshman Christopher Upton.

Polk County sophomore Evan Dadson placed fourth in 19:45.14, with Jack Derkach taking sixth (20:30.09) and Connor Holtz finishing 14th (21:48.94). Emmett Zacharias placed 26th (23:04.91) to round out the scoring for the Wolverines.
Also competing were Chris Rickman (24:56.84), Kiyon Staley (25:04.81), Tyler Lawrence (26:00.22) and Joseph Poe (27:34.51).
Freshman Taytem Johnson placed eighth for the Polk County girls, finishing the tough course in 27:04.20. Izzy Jackson (31:39.76) and Ailey Morlino (38:31.39) also competed for the Wolverines, who are still one runner shy of fielding a complete team.
