
Polk runners deliver season-best efforts at Friday Night Lights
Polk County cross country runners delivered nothing but personal bests Friday in Kernersville.
Competing on the Ivey Redmon Cross Country Course where the state 2A championship will be held later this year, Wolverine runners all provided their best times of the young season at the Friday Night Lights XC Festival.
Competing in the Open division, Davis Young led Polk County’s boys with a time of 19:44.5, his first sub-20:00 effort. Jalyn Thomas followed with a time of 20:54.8, with Adison Broyles next at 21:58.6
Also competing for the Polk boys were Ardon Malan (23:40.4), Tristan Devine (25:26.3), Aaden Denton (25:58.6) and Philip Teague (26:14.0).
Polk County’s girls did not field a full team, but were led by Leah Dotson’s 24:54.6. Arriana Wood followed with a time of 25:45.6, with Ellie Baughman completing the course in 27:25.7 and Luna Gonzalez running 32:16.6
Polk runners are next slated to compete Tuesday in the Mountain Foothills 7 Pre-Conference meet in Brevard. The meet begins at 4:30 p.m.
