Polk Middle runners score top-10 finishes at Greensboro Invitational

Noah Hammond led a strong showing for Polk County middle school runners Saturday at the 41st annual Greensboro Invitational at Hagan Stone Park, placing fifth in the boys 4,000 meters with a time of 15:38.94.

Sophia Junge finished ninth in the girls 4,000 meters, crossing in 17:53.72. Eric Ramirez completed the boys race in 20:07.16, placing 62nd.

In high school competition, Liam Jackson paced the Polk County boys with an 18:21.93 finish in the 5,000 meters. Ethan Jenne crossed in 20:09.05, followed by Jacob Jenne at 20:22.53 and Dean Holland at 20:27.57.

William Finch completed the course in 21:30.79, while Silas Amorelli finished in 22:14.54 and Benji Ballenger in 22:16.02. Max Butterfield ran 23:00.38, Austin Martin 24:05.43 and Alex LaBreche 24:39.55.

Rounding out the Polk County boys results were Caleb Young (24:40.45), Alex Hodges (25:21.21) and Cameron Cole (28:35.90). The boys team placed 34th among 45 schools. Charlotte Latin, Jordan and Science Hill finished as the top three teams.

Amberina Jenne led the Polk County girls with a time of 23:21.38 in the 5,000 meters. Sadie Schweitzer finished in 25:55.58, followed by Khloe Kitchen (29:53.06), Kendra Kitchen (33:20.69) and Zoe Gonzalez-Estevez (35:48.97).

The girls team placed 30th among 31 schools. Burlington Christian Academy, Carrboro and Northern Guilford took the top three spots.
