The Polk County Middle School cross country teams delivered strong performances at Tuesday’s Smoky Mountain Middle School Invitational held at Jackson County Recreation Park, with both squads placing well in competitive fields.
The boys team secured a sixth place finish out of 12 competing teams in a field of 150 runners. Leading the way for Polk County was Noah Hammond, who crossed the finish line in fourth place individually with a time of 12:25.60, earning him a spot among the top finishers in the race.
The girls team captured ninth place out of 11 teams in a field of 112 runners. Sophia Junge paced the Wolverines with a third place individual finish, clocking in at 13:51.30 to earn a spot on the podium.

The Polk Middle teams will be back in action next Tuesday, competing against Blue Ridge Conference teams at Hendersonville Middle School.
