Polk County Middle School’s cross country teams opened the season on a high note Tuesday with a pair of individual top-five finishes in competition at Flat Rock Middle School.
Olivia Overholt won the girls race and Tori Thompson placed fourth as the Polk girls took fifth overall. Overholt is the defending Blue Ridge Conference champion.
“Tori was in second for the majority of the race but fell to fourth at the very end,” said PCMS cross country coach Katie Elliott. “She shows a lot of promise for the upcoming season.
“Overall, our first meet was a success just so that all of our new athletes could experience how a cross country meet goes. Out of 23 athletes, only four are returning cross country runners, and everyone else is new. They did great. I am proud and excited to see how they grow this season.”
