Polk Middle School’s cross country teams wrapped up their season Tuesday at the Blue Ridge Conference Championships in Cullowhee, with the boys placing fifth and the girls finishing seventh.
Seventh grader Noah Hammond paced the Wolverines’ boys squad with a second-place finish, crossing the line in 11:35.53. Nash Jordan of Rugby Middle won the race in 11:28.88.

Noah Gutierrez was Polk’s second runner, taking 22nd in 13:29.73. Eric Ramirez finished 32nd (14:13.78), followed by John McGrath in 33rd (14:17.17), Kelton Kitchen in 49th (15:11.41), Ellis Searcy in 55th (15:42.16) and Kaiden Kitchen in 64th (19:19.19).

Gutierrez and McGrath were the only eighth graders in Polk’s boys lineup. The Wolverines finished fifth overall out of 11 teams, with Rugby Middle and Waynesville Middle claiming the top two spots.
On the girls side, eighth grader Sophia Junge led Polk Middle with a fifth-place finish in 13:47.40. Lissette Brinton of Apple Valley won the race in 12:35.09.
Nora Williams was Polk’s second finisher, placing 35th in 16:00.08. Rylie Klimstra took 44th (16:43.55), Addie Blackwell finished 47th (16:52.25), Lucy Delmas placed 49th (16:55.53), Carolina Foster was 55th (17:41.09) and Kayla Hayford finished 56th (18:00.76).
Junge and Blackwell were the only eighth graders for the Wolverines’ girls team. Polk Middle finished seventh overall, with Hendersonville Middle winning the team title and Apple Valley Middle and Rugby Middle tying for second.
