
Olivia Overholt posted a sixth-place finish Saturday to lead Polk County’s cross country teams at the Western North Carolina Cross Country Carnival in Hendersonville.
In their season-opening meet, the Wolverine girls placed 11th in the Girls 5K Invitational, with Overholt’s time of 22:08.3 leading the way.
The Polk County boys placed 26th.
Emma Brunell finished in 26:22 and Tori Thompson posted a time of 26.40.1 for Polk County. Syler Purtill followed in 27:12.6, with Anna McFadden next at 27:19.9.
Lindsey Jenkins finished in 27:37.4, with Lauren Dotson at 31:56.2.

Greer Middle College Charter won the race, with Spring Valley and Cuthbertson rounding out the top three. Greer Middle’s Leah Trusty won the race with a time of 21.27.
Mark Teague paced the Polk County boys with a time of 20:36. Braxton Edwards followed with a time of 20:57.3, with Grant Wooten (23:40.3), Gus Maass (25:07.8), Ridge Burnett (25:24), Jackson Geddings (25:32.2) and Michael Simoncic (26:45.5) completing the team’s effort.
Greer Middle College also won the boys race, topping Cutbertson and Spring Valley.
Ryan Motondo of Walter Williams High won the Invitational race with a time of 17:16.4.
