Polk County got an advance look Saturday morning at the course where the 2A West cross country regional will be held, competing in the Freedom Invitational in Morganton.

The Polk County girls placed 10th out of 21 teams, led by junior India Godlock, who finished fifth with a time of 20:24.29. Freshman Mariah Overholt finished 63rd with a time of 24;37.10.

The Wolverine boys, welcoming the return of senior Jacon Wolfe, placed 13th in the 27-team field. Senior Sean Doyle led Polk County with a seventh-place finish, finishing the tough 5K course in 17:23.3. Tuscola’s Jacon Franklin won the event with a time of 16:48.6.

Wolfe, who has been sidelined since May by illness, finished 53rd with a time of 19:17.8.
