Polk County senior Olivia Overholt capped her high school cross country career Saturday with a 20th-place finish in the state 2A cross country championships at Ivey Redmon Sports Complex in Kernersville.

Overholt battled the tough course and cool, windy conditions to post a time of 21:10.00 in her third state championship appearance. She placed 15th and 25th in her previous state final appearances, both in the 1A state meet.

Brevard’s Lucy Murray won the 2A state title with a time of 19:26.50, finishing almost nine seconds ahead of Franklin Academy’s Emily Myers.

North Carolina School of Science and Math won the 2A team championship, placing five runners in the top 12. Pine Lake Prep, Community School of Davidson, Brevard and West Stanly rounded out the top five.
