Polk County’s Sean Doyle ran to victory Saturday in the Invitational division of the Western North Carolina Cross Country Carnival at Jackson Park in Hendersonville.

Doyle posted a time of 16:45.2 to finish just four-tenths of a second ahead of Hayden Alexander of Thomas Jefferson.

Polk County’s Mitchell Brown placed 28th, finishing the 5K course in a time of 18:27.4.

Also running for the Wolverines were Caleb Potter (126th, 20:11), Conner Holtz (170, 21:17), Emmett Zacaharias (195, 21:44), Luke Collins (219, 23:27) and Jackson Hanson (227, 25:41).

The Wolverines placed 20th in the team competition.

In the girls race, Polk County’s India Godlock placed third in a time of 20:34.4. Greer Middle School’s Morgan Summey won the race in a time of 19.40, with Brevard’s Eliza Witherspoon second in 20:09.

Also running for the Wolverines were Mariah Overholt (91st, 24:27), Haven Dufford (144, 25:48), Leah Hardin (158, 26:17), Emma Waggoner (167, 26:35), Savannah Robbins (177, 26:59) and Danielle Holtz (178, 27:05).

Polk County placed 19th in the team competition.
