Wolverine Wrestling Club has successful day at Hot Rod Blowout

Saturday proved another successful day for Wolverine Wrestling Club.

The team brought home a pair of first-place finishes as well as the Boys Division Championship at the USA Wrestling 2024 Hot Rod Blowout in Greensboro.

“It was an early morning, but we wrestled some tough competition and walked away with a team trophy,” said WWC coach Russell Wilson. “Everyone wrestled well, and when we can bring wrestlers from elementary through middle school, we have more fun. The young guys really look up to the older wrestlers and have fun watching them compete.

“I was really proud of Rhys Jackson and Dominic Ramirez. They both decided to bump up weight classes and divisions to compete.”

Jackson, a fifth grader at Tryon Elementary, competed in the middle school 97-pound class and placed third. Ramirez, a first grader at Tryon, moved up two weight classes to compete in the 8U Boys 56 class and also placed third.

Chester Wilson won the Middle School 160-170 class while Hudson Hyde brought home the Middle School 250 trophy.

Also competing were:

8U Boys 62: Asa Wilson, 3rd
8U Boys 56: Zeke Wilson, 2nd
10U Boys 96-109: Boaz Wilson, 2nd
12U Boys 70: Graham Surface, 3rd
