White Sox release Booker

Working to reach the required roster limit before Tuesday’s Opening Day, the Chicago White Sox have released former Polk County standout Joel Booker.

Booker spent much of March in the White Sox’ major league camp, appearing in three spring training games. He cracked a two-run homer in Chicago’s March 28 game against San Diego.

Booker spent five seasons in the White Sox’ minor leagues, appearing in 470 games. He has a career average of .269 with 23 homers, 164 RBI and 124 stolen bases.

The 28-year-old Booker earned MVP honors in the 2018 Carolina League All-Star Game, going 3-for-4 with four RBI in that event.
