Former Polk County baseball standout Joel Booker has been assigned to Double-A Birmingham by the Chicago White Sox.

Booker began the season with the Barons and hit .351 with a homer and nine RBI in 20 games before being promoted to Triple-A Charlotte. That batting average led the Southern League, as did his eight stolen bases.

In Charlotte, Booker hit .205 with three doubles, a triple and a homer in 25 games.

Booker started in left field Saturday for Birmingham as the Barons faced the Chattanooga Lookouts in Chattanooga.
