Polk County Middle School eighth grader Nathan Prince earned his first victory in a V8 car on Friday, winning the Thunder Bomber Futures race at Harris Speedway in Rutherfordton.
Racing against a field of adults, Prince claimed the checkered flag, finishing ahead of Hayden Atkins and Justin Barber for the win.
Another local student, Polk County High School’s Jake Jackson, took top honors in the Crate Sportsman class, with Tryon’s Bailey Hipp placing third and Mill Spring’s Matt Prince finishing fourth.
Columbus’ Mattison Hoots took second in the Thunder Bomber race. Only the top-five finishers were available for Friday’s races.
