More than 225 runners hit the streets of Saluda on Saturday morning for the annual Coon Dog Day 5K, hosted this year by Saluda Elementary School.

The 5K fun run began on Main Street and followed the usual Coon Dog Day race route.

Numerous volunteers helped make the race a success, and students stood along the race course and cheered on the runners as they trekked through the 3.1-mile journey.

Students also awarded hand-crafted medals to the participants as they finished.

The event serves as a fundraiser for Saluda Elementary School, and race organizers deemed the event a success, thanking all school staff, parents and community volunteers that made the race happen.
