Dominant defense and explosive offense – that was the winning formula Saturday morning for Polk County Youth Football’s 7-8 year-old football team.
The Wolverines began play in the Mid-Atlantic Carolinas American Youth Football & Cheer Conference playoffs with a resounding 40-0 win over Cherryville in an opening-round game in G.M. Tennant Stadium.
The Wolverines, the third seed in the 7-8 year-old division, will face the Gaston County Mustangs in next week’s semifinals.
Two other Polk County teams received first-round byes. The Wolverine 9-10 year-old team is seeded second while the 11-12 year-old squad is the top seed. Both teams are scheduled to take part in next week’s semifinals.
