Polk County Youth Football standout Angus Weaver has been selected to play in the Junior Shrine Bowl on Dec. 17 in Spartanburg.
Weaver will be part of the North Carolina team that will face a South Carolina squad at 10 a.m. in Gibbs Stadium on the campus of Wofford College. The game will precede the annual Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.
To be chosen for the game, players must be in the sixth grade, have a C average or better, present reference letters and also be willing to solicit donations for the game from sponsors and advertising, among other requirements.
Weaver helped lead the PCYF 11-12 year-old team to a Mid-Atlantic Carolinas American Youth Football & Cheer Conference regular-season championship this year. The Wolverines were upset in Saturday’s semifinals and will face Upstate Titans in this week’s third-plae game.
