
PCVC teams shine in SAVL Spring Madness Classic
One thing proved certain during the Southeast Alliance Volleyball League’s Spring Madness Classic, held Saturday and Sunday in gyms in North and South Carolina.
Polk County volleyball’s present and future looks very exciting.
All seven teams from Polk County Volleyball Club took part in the competition, which involved clubs from throughout the Carolinas and Georgia.
PCVC’s four experienced teams – 13U Molly, 14U, 15U and 17U – each performed extremely well, posting a combined record of 18-4. The Classic marked the first SAVL tournament for the program’s other three teams – 13U Kara, 12U Amber and 12U Mead Syd.
A look at how the teams fared:
- PCVC 13U Molly played up an age group and in a tougher division, yet still finished 5-1 and won the Silver bracket title. PCVC’s lone loss came to Savannah River Select 14 Blue, a tough 26-24, 16-25, 15-11 defeat. The 13U team then swept both its Silver matches, defeating Xcel 13 Select 23-25, 25-19, 15-11 in the bracket final.
- PCVC 14U went undefeated in its first four matches, reaching the Gold bracket in the 14U Club division, before dropping a 25-21, 26-28, 15-12 semifinal decision to Diamond T Griffin/Bridges of the Oconee area of South Carolina. Diamond T went on to win the final.
- PCVC’s 15U squad finished 4-1 for the weekend and placed fifth in the 21-team field. Much like the 14U team, the 15U team won its first four matches and moved into the Gold bracket. In its first Gold match, the 15U squad were edged by Carolina Select Volleyball Club 15 Blaze in a 25-23, 21-25, 15-13 match. CSVC is based in Hickory.
- PCVC 17U placed seventh out of 23 teams and won the Silver bracket in the 17-18 Club division. PCVC’s lone loss came in the Challenge Round, a hard-fought 25-16, 25-27, 18-16 loss to Atlanta Performance Volleyball 18 Elite. APVB went on to win the division. PCVC 17U won the Silver division with a 26-24, 29-27 victory over Carolina Juniors Volleyball 17 Thomas of the Charlotte area.
- PCVC’s MeadSyd12, Amber 12 and Kara 13 teams made their SAVL debuts, gaining valuable experience as the teams begin to ramp up ther volleyball knowledge. The 12U competiton featured a match between the two PCVC teams, with MeadSyd claiming a 25-18, 25-20 win.
PCVC teams will next be in action in the Dixie Classic, set for March 21-22 in Hendersonville.
