PCVC teams score 1st, 2nd in weekend tournaments

Polk County Volleyball Club teams brought home a championship and runner-up finish in tournament action on Saturday and Sunday.

PCVC 16U finished a perfect 6-0 to win the K2 Wilderness Clash held in Knoxville while PCVC’s 14U team made its debut with a second-place showing in The Challenge Series Event #1 in Spartanburg.

Led by head coach Shawn Corhn, PCVC 16U dropped just one set in two days of play at the K2 tournament, held at Knoxville Convention Center.

PCVC 16U defeated Tsunami N161E James of Atlanta 25-10, 25-13 in the championship match. PCVC had to win two matches Sunday to get to the final, defeating Spartanburg-based Upward Stars 16 Kendall 25-11, 25-20 and IVC JC 16-1 of Johns Creek, Ga. 16-25, 25-16, 15-9 in the semifinal.

PCVC 16U team members include Elysia Smith, Kylie Lewis, Ada Kelley, Elena Carroll, Hayden Blackwell, Mia Bradley, Amberlyn Scruggs, Ella Waldman and Zaelea Eller.

PCVC 14U reached the championship match on Saturday in Spartanburg under the direction of head coach Kim Staley. There were 18 teams in the field.

Undefeated in pool play, PCVC defeated Ignite 14 25-14, 15-10 in the semifinals before falling to Upward Stars 14 Tabs in a tightly-contested 25-19, 25-27, 15-4 final.

Members of PCVC’s 14U team include Mahaley Wilson, Aslyn Scruggs, Junie May Mitchell, Brooklyn Jones, Riayh Schroyer, Charley Dusenbury and Lucy Hyde.
