PCVC squads open 2020 season in Georgia, South Carolina

Polk County Volleyball Club kicked off its 2020 season Saturday with six of the club’s seven teams in action.

Three teams – 13U Molly, 14U and 15U – began play in the Rally Challenge 2020 event in Cartersville, Ga.

13U Molly, guided by Polk County High head coach Molly Hill, swept through pool play without dropping a set, earning a spot in Sunday’s Gold bracket play. The team will begin Gold play on Sunday against North Alabama Spiker’s Association 13 Allison.

PCVC’s 14U squad, coached by Savannah Webb, also finished unbeaten in pool play and also didn’t drop a set in doing so. The 14U squad earned a bye and will begin Gold bracket play on Sunday against the winner of Spike Atlanta 14-1 and Club Unite 13 Jo.

PCVC 15U, coached by Shawn Corhn, finished 1-2 in pool play, dropping a tough three-set decision to North Alabama Spiker’s Association South 15 KP. 15U will begin play in the Silver bracket on Sunday afternoon.

Three other PCVC squads competed in the Southeast Alliance Volleyball League Challenge Series Stop #1 in Spartanburg. Competing there were 12U Amber, 12U MeadSyd and 13U Kara.

The 13U squad, coached by Kara Overholt, finished 1-2 for the day, the win a 28-26, 25-22 victory over Upward Stats 13A Rachel.

The 12U Amber – coached by Amber Styles, Ashley Self and Ansley Lynch – and 12U MeadSyd – coached by Meadow Becker and Sydney Waldman – teams each finished 1-2, with 12U Amber earning a 25-16, 25-17 win over MeadSyd in a PCVC head-to-head clash.

12U MeadSyd picked up its win with a 25-21, 25-23 victory over Carolina Select Volleyball Club 12 Flash of Hickory.
