PCVC Kim takes seventh at tourney to cap good month for club

It has been a good February for Polk County Volleyball Club.

The group’s latest success came this weekend as PCVC Kim placed seventh of 20 teams in the Southeast Alliance Volleyball League Alliance Champions Weekend in Spartanburg.

PCVC Kim placed second in the Silver division and finished 3-2 for the weekend. After topping Upward Stars 14 Jordan in straight sets in the Silver semifinal, PCVC Kim suffered a tough 25-20, 25-27, 17-15 loss to Carolina Islanders 14-1 in the Silver final.

During the weekend of Feb. 19-20, PCVC’s Shawn team placed fourth in the 17 bracket of the 2022 Charlotte AAU Grand Prix in Rock Hill, S.C. while PCVC Savannah team placed eighth in the 13 bracket of the President’s Day Seashore Classic in Myrtle Beach.

PCVC Shawn opened the tourney with a 2-1 showing in bracket play, advancing to the Gold bracket. PCVC claimed a 26-24, 20-25, 15-2 victory over FCA Midlands 17-Tierra to open Gold action, but fell to tournament champion I.C. Stars 17 Mark in the Gold semifinals and Carolina Union Volleyball Club 17 Orange in the Gold consolation match.

PCVC Savannah posted a 3-2 record, reaching the Silver semifinals with a hard-fought 22-25, 25-22, 15-8 win over Stars Magnum 13 Elrod. PCVC then fell 25-21, 25-21 to Sandhills 14 Brittany.

PCVC Shawn also had a stellar showing the previous week, reaching the Gold 18U bracket of the AAU Great Smoky Mountain Qualifier in Cherokee. Playing up several age groups, the team won four of their first five matches before falling 2-1 to Sumter VBC 18 Heath, the eventual tournament champion.
