PCVC 16 team takes third in Dixie Classic

A pair of Polk County Volleyball Club teams delivered successful showings at the Dixie Classic Championships held Saturday and Sunday.

PCVC’s 16U squad, coached by Shawn Corhn, took third place out of 30 teams in competition in Spartanburg.

The team won their first four matches, three of those in three sets, to reach the Gold bracket semifinals. PCVC defeated the Grand Strand Juniors, Tusnami Volleyball’s 16 Alexis team of Forest Park, Ga., Upward Stars 16 Alex of Spartanburg and Carolina Union Volleyball Club of Charlotte in reaching the Gold semis.

PCVC’s run ended in the semifinal match with a 25-20, 25-13 loss to Crossfire 16 Elite Chris of Liberty, S.C.

PCVC’s 15s squad, coached by Savannah Webb, posted a 3-3 record and placed 19th in the 28-team field in competition in Hendersonville.

After dropping its first two matches in pool play, PCVC 15 finished the weekend by winning three of its final four matches. The team won the Bronze Challenge division with a 25-11, 25-13 victory over Carolina CHAOS 14 Royal of the Raleigh area.
