Owen sets Marshall record with six homers in three days

Autumn Owen had a long-long-long weekend for Marshall’s softball team.

The former Polk County standout delivered plenty of long drives at the Liberty Classic in Lynchburg, Va. Owen set a new school record for home runs in a weekend with six, smashing those in five games during the three-day tournament.

Owen honored twice in Friday’s tournament opener against Northern Illinois and then once in each of the Herd’s remaining four games. She finished the five games 9-for-14 with 14 RBI and scored 11 runs.

For the season, Owen is batting a team-high .512 with eight home runs and 21 RBI. All of those numbers are also tops in the Sun Belt Conference, and Owen also leads the league in total bases, on-base percentage and slugging percentage.

Marshall is off to an 11-3 start and will make its home debut on Friday, hosting the Thundering Herd Round Robin tourney. Marshall opens play Friday afternoon against Pitt.
