The wins just keep coming for former Polk County athletic and coaching standout Chris Mintz.
Mintz, now in his second season as the head girls basketball coach at Cocke County (Tenn.) High School, recorded his 400th career win on Feb. 11 with a 67-58 victory over Jefferson County.
The Fighting Cocks, now 23-6, are scheduled to face Sullivan East on Friday in the regional quarterfinals of the 2022 Class 3A East Girls Basketball Tournament. Cocke County reached 20 wins for the first time since the 2012-13 season.
Mintz was a multi-sport standout at Polk County, earning selection to the Shrine Bowl as a football player. He returned to Polk and served as the head girls basketball coach for five seasons before moving to Cherokee, where he won 249 games before leaving the program.
