A pair of local golfers took top honors Tuesday in the Drive, Putt and Chip 2020 local qualifying event at Meadowbrook Golf Course.

Tryon’s Addie Buss and Evan Jones each won their age divisions in the event, in which competitors take part in all three skills, earning points for their showing in each.

Buss and Jones each earned a spot in the subregional qualifying event set for August 10 in Greensboro. The series will conclude next year with the national competition at Augusta National Golf Club.

Buss won the girls 10-11 division while Jones captured the 14-15 boys class. Other local golfers taking part in the competition included Brady McConnaughey in the boys 7-9 division and Derrick Griffin in the boys 12-13 division.

It marks the second straight year that Buss has qualified for subregional competition. She placed fourth last year to earn an alternate’s slot for regional play.

A joint initiative founded in 2013 by the Masters Tournament, United States Golf Association and The PGA of America, Drive, Chip and Putt is a free nationwide junior golf development competition aimed at growing the game by focusing on the three fundamental skills employed in golf.
