Joel Booker is one step closer to a Major League career.
The Chicago White Sox announced on Thursday that the former Polk County standout has been promoted to Class AA Birmingham in the Southern League. Booker and six other teammates from the Winston-Salem Dash will join the Barons for the second half of their season.
Booker’s promotion comes after he spent the first half of the season at Winston-Salem, the White Sox Advanced A affiliate. He hit .297 in 53 games, with five home runs, 21 RBI and 14 stolen bases.
Booker earned Most Valuable Player honors on Tuesday in the Carolina League All-Star Game, homering and driving in four runs to lead the Southern Divisiobn squad to victory.
Joining Booker will be Dylan Cease, Bernardo Flores, Matt Foster, Zach Thompson, Luis Basabe and Alex Call.
