Foothills gymnasts rack up medals at Happy Feet Meet

Gymnasts from Foothills Gymnastics Academy competed and helped raise money in the Happy Feet Meet in Pineville on Feb. 22-23.

The Happy Feet meet was a special competition to honor and raise money in the memory of a coach and judge that passed away last year.

FGA’s 12 gymnasts brought home 33 gold medals, nine silver medals and five bronze medals as well as three team awards. Xcel Gold came home with second place as a team, Xcel Silver brought home seventh place team and Xcel Bronze brought home fifth place.

Grace Baglia, Lydia O’Shields and ScottLynn Whiteside competed at the Xcel Bronze level. Genevieve Ard, Hallee Mathis and Virginia Then represented FGA at the Xcel Silver level. Caity Elledge, Zina Ishwar, Eliza Then, Anna-Carlisle Keim, Sherlyn Trejo and Jessica Sizemore competed at the Xcel Gold level.

Baglia earned first All-Around with a 38.15 from her first-place vault of 9.35, first-place bars at 9.75, first-place beam at 9.6 and first-place floor at 9.45. In her division, O’Shields earned first All-Around with 37.50 from her first on vault with 9.45, first on bars with 9.65, first on bars with 9.4 and second on floor with 9.2. Whiteside received first All-Around with 36.5 from her first on bars with 9.375, second on vault with 8.95, first on beam with 9.05 and second on floor with 9.125.

Ard earned first All-Around with a 37.45 from her first on bars with a 9.7 and second on floor with a a 9.25. Mathis earned second All-Around with first on bars with 9.3, second on beam with a 9.275 and second on floor. Then received first All-Around in her division with first on floor with 9.05, first on beam with 9.225 and first on bars with 9.4.

In Xcel Gold, Trejo earned third on bars with a 9.45 and 9.3 on floor. Elledge earned third All-Around with a 37.65 from her first on beam with 9.725, first on bars with 9.6 and third on floor with 9.375. Sizemore earned first All-Around with a 36.8 and first on bars, beam, vault and floor. Ishwar earned a 9.3 on bars, a 9.2 on beam and a 9.0 on floor.

Eliza Then received first All-Around with 36.45 from her first on bars with 9.325, first on vault with 9.1, first on beam with 9.0 and first on floor with 9.0. Keim earned first All-Around in her division with a 35.7 from her first on bars with 9.275, second on beam with 8.6 and second on floor with 9.15.
