Foothills Gymnastics gymnasts shine at Cherokee competition

Gymnasts from Foothills Gymnastics Academy in Tryon had another strong showing Sunday at the Legend of the Smokies Invitational in Cherokee.

Five FGA gymnasts competed in the event, the third meet of the season for the team.

FGA’s Xcel Silver team consists of Anna-Carlisle Keim, Caity Elledge, Zina Ishwar and Reeve Carroll. The Xcel Silver team earned first place due to their standout performances in the meet.

Elledge received five gold medals, with first-place efforts on vault, bars, beam, floor and all around with a score of 38.45. That represents the highest score by any of FGA’s 83 gymnasts this season.

Carroll earned second-place finishes on vault and bars,, third place on floor and beam and second in all around while Keim grabbed a second in bars and floor, fifth in vault and fourth all around.

Ishawr added a fourth on bars, fifth on beam and floor and sixth all around.

Hurley Bell represented FGA’s Xcel Gold team at the Invitational and won firth place all around in the Xcel Gold Division. This was impressive as Bell upgraded her routines from the previous meet to include new elements such as a press to handstand and, on the bars, a cast to handstand. Bell earned first on vault with a score of 9.65 as well as first on floor and second on bars.

The girls will spend the next week preparing for the Carolina Classic in Columbia, S.C.
