A number of Polk County residents flashed their running talents Saturday during the annual Ache Around the Lake road races at Lake Lanier in Tryon.

In the 8K Ache, the highlight event of the day, Columbus resident Jennifer Fisher took honors as the top female finisher, completing the challenging course in a time of 32:17.50. That was also the fourth-best time overall.

Recent Polk County High graduate Braxton Edwards placed second overall, his time of 30:24.07 less than a minute behind champion David Barton of Travelers Rest, S.C., who finished the course in 29:56.43.

Columbus’ Javin Miller placed fifth with a time of 33:38.57, with Columbus resident Curtis Rowe winning the male Masters division with a time of 35:30.21 that was also good for seventh overall.

Tryon’s Meghan Eadus won the female Masters division with a time of 39:18.39.

In the two-mile run, Tryon’s Acer Eadus and Callem Eadus took the top two spots.

Black Bear Half Marathon
A trio of Polk County residents competed Oct. 8 in the 3rd Annual Black Bear Half Marathon & 8K in Hendersonville, the race completing in Jackson Park.

Robert Wallace of Columbus placed 26th overall and fourth in the male 40-49 age group with a time of 1:40.09.

Saluda’s Kyle Rhodes placed 55th overall and eighth in the male 40-49 group with a time of 1:47.15.

Tryon’s Becky Corthell covered the course in 2:01.46 to finish 130th overall and 15th in the female 40-49 age group.

More than 350 runners competed in the event.
