
College roundup: Potter, Montreat claim AAC indoor track and field title
Caleb Potter wrapped up his first indoor track and field season at Montreat College with some relay success.
Potter helped a pair of Montreat relay teams take top-three finishes at the recent Appalachian Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem.
Montreat’s men’s team won its third straight AAC title at the meet, held Feb. 20-21.
Potter was part of the 4×800-meter relay team that placed second and the distance medley relay team that placed third. He also ran the mile, taking 12th with a time of 4:39.11.
Potter had his best 3000-meter time of the season at the ETSU Track & Field Invitational in January, finishing 25th with a time of 9:36.87.
GARDNER-WEBB SOFTBALL: Sophomore Autumn Owen continues to be one of the top hitters in the Big South Conference.
Owen has helped lead the Bulldogs to a 20-3 start to the season, including a current 14-game winning streak. She is hitting .400 with six doubles, five triples and two home runs. Owen is 10-for-10 in stolen bases and has 15 RBI while drawing 17 walks.
She is among the conference leaders in numerous offensive categories.
UNC GREENSBORO TRACK: India Godlock placed 12th Sunday in the 5000 meters at the Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in Lexington, Va.
The UNCG junior finished the race in a time of 18:12.99. That was just seconds off her best time in the event this season, an 18:09.73 run at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitatonal held Feb. 14-15 in Lynchburg, Va.
Godlock also posted career indoor bests in the 3000 meters (10:52.50), 400 meters (1:04.67) and 500 meters (1:24.21) this season.
EAST CAROLINA TRACK: Freshman Jake Justice placed 11th Friday at the American Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham, Ala.
Justice had a top vault of 15-5 1/2 inches at the event. That was just shy of his best indoor mark of the season, a 15-6 1/4 set at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitatonal held Feb. 14-15 in Lynchburg, Va.
Justice had top-five finishes in the pole vault at the Doc Hale Virginia Tech Invitational and the Carolina Challenge.

APPALACHIAN STATE TRACK: Senior Sean Doyle helped Appalachian State’s distance medley relay team place fifth at the Sun Belt Indoor Track & Field Championships held Feb. 24-25 in Birmingham, Ala.
Doyle also competed in the 300 meters, 800 meters and 4×400-meter relay during the 2019-2020 indoor season. He had a career best time of 36.57 in the 300 meters at the Appalachian Open Indoor Meet in December.
Doyle also took third in the 800 and helped the Mountaineer 4×400-meter relay team place fifth at the ETSU Track & Field Invitational in January.
GARDNER-WEBB TRACK: Junior Mitchell Brown’s leg helped Gardner-Webb’s distance medley relay team place sixth in the Big South Indoor Track and Field Championships held Feb. 28-29 in Blacksburg, Va.
During the indoor season, Brown had a career indoor best time of 2:50.86 in the 1000 meters at the VMI Indoor Classic. He also competed in the mile and 3000 meters during the indoor season.
