Former Polk County baseball standout Joel Booker will start his third professional season playing for the Winston-Salem Dash.
The Chicago White Sox have assigned Booker to Winston-Salem, the club’s Advanced Single A affiliate. The Dash open their season on Thursday at Carolina.
Booker spent the second half of 2017 playing with the Dash, batting .233 in 52 games.
The former Wolverine received 12 at-bats this spring in White Sox major league spring training games, going 5-for-12 with two RBI.
In January, White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said of Booker, “. . . “talented kid, plays a tremendous centerfield. Love the speed, good approach at the plate. He was challenged a little last year and we’re going to continue to challenge him. Let him dictate where his path goes.”
In two seasons Booker has posted a career average of .287 with seven home runs and 64 stolen bases.
