Joel Booker is coming home, one step away from the major leagues.

The former Polk County standout has been promoted by the Chicago White Sox to the team’s Triple A affiliate in Charlotte. Booker made his debut Sunday with the Knights, starting in right field in the Knights’ 9-8 loss to Indianpolis.

Booker went 0-for-4 in his debut with the White Sox’ highest minor league affiliate, just a step short of the majors. He did draw a walk and stole a base in the game.

Booker received his promotion after a sizzling start to the season at Double-A Birmingham, where he led the Southern League in hitting with a .351 average and also was in the top 10 in hits, on-base percentage and stolen bases.

The Knights host Gwinnett for a three-game series beginning Monday.
