Two local soccer players have recently been part of team success with their respective travel clubs.
Polk County High School senior Reese Alley helped the Highland Football Club 01 Red Girls squad win the North Carolina Youth Soccer Association (NCYSA) Premier Division. The division is the top level of play in the state.
Many of the same players won the division in 2016, making them the first girls’ squad in HFC history to claim the Premier Division title more than once.
“I could not be more proud of this group of players for winning the NCYSA Premier Division,” said head coach Jason Remine. “Their winning the most competitive league in the state is a huge accomplishment. This group of players will without a doubt go down as one of the most successful teams in Western North Carolina history.”
The squad is comprised of players from throughout Western North Carolina.
Polk County Middle School student Ben Korzelius and his club team, Carolina Elite Soccer Academy 05 Boys ENCL of Greenville, recently took part in the Disney Soccer Showcase in Orlando, Fla.
The team played four games at the event, outscoring opponents 16-4. Korzelius tallied a goal in the final and added an assist in an earlier match.
The club competes in the Mid-Atlantic Conference of the Elite Clubs National League against opponents from North and South Carolina and Virginia.
