Wolverines net victory in home, conference opener

Polk County enjoyed its home and Mountain Foothills 7 Conference opener on Wednesday, downing Patton 8-1 in boys tennis action.

The Wolverines improved to 2-0 overall, 1-0 in conference matches. Patton dropped to 0-2, 0-1.

How it happened: Polk County secured the match win in singles play, claiming five of the six contests to build an unassailable lead.

Banks Barber set the tone at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 win, and the Wolverines largely dominated the remainder of the matches, including McClain Koistinen’s 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.

Polk County also swept the day’s three doubles matches.

Next up: Polk County travels Thursday to face R-S Central in another conference clash.
