Wolverines blank Kings Mountain in final prep for conference play

Polk County completed its pre-conference preparation on Tuesday, rolling past Kings Mountain 9-0 in boys tennis action at Polk.

The Wolverines (3-1) are slated to begin Mountain Foothills 7 Conference play on Wednesday, hosting Brevard, weather permitting.

Already owning a 7-2 win over the Mountaineers this season, Polk County head coach Richard Davis felt Tuesday’s win reflected the improvement his team has already made thus far in the season.

“Really great effort from all players involved today,” Davis said. “Riley Ballentine rebounded to have a good win today after getting beat last time. Thaddeus Ruff moved into the number three position this week and had a good win.

“Banks continues to improve and had a really good win against a very good player. Jack Smith continues to play really good tennis at the number two spot. Gabe and Eric continue to get better with each match. Very proud of their improvement.”
