Villains bring end to Wolverines’ tennis playoff hopes

Polk County’s boys tennis season came to an end Tuesday with a 5-1 loss at Bishop McGuinness in the second round of the 1A West Regional in Kernersville.

Wolverine senior Ryan Heider earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Henry Kirby at No. 1 singles, but the Villains (15-0) swept the remaining singles matches to clinch the win.

Doubles matches were not held. Polk County ends its season with a 9-5 record.

Heider will take part in the state 1A singles championship beginng Friday morning in Cary. He will face Raleigh Charter’s Jeremiah Lee in his opening match.
