Polk County’s boys tennis team battled but ultimately came up short against an undefeated R-S Central squad, falling 6-3 in Mountain Foothills 7 Conference action Tuesday at home.
The loss evens the Wolverines’ season record at 3-3 overall and in conference play, while the Hilltoppers remain perfect at 5-0 overall and 3-0 in MF7 competition.
Polk County found success at the top singles position, where Banks Barber continued his strong play with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Ryan Garcia. The Wolverines’ other singles point came from Harris Windsor, who displayed resilience in a three-set thriller at the No. 5 spot, outlasting Edward Barrera-Hernandez 6-2, 3-6, 10-8 in a tiebreaker.

In doubles action, the Wolverines earned a point at the No. 3 position where Windsor and Morgan Allen combined for an 8-6 victory over Howard and Nathan Millette.
Polk County will have an opportunity for redemption as they travel to Rutherfordton on Monday for a rematch with the Hilltoppers. That match is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
