Tuesday’s pre-regional tournament will determine which players advance to the 3A West Regional on May 1 at Gardner-Webb University.
Polk’s No. 1 doubles team of Charlie Wagoner and Harris Windsor has already received a bye and will automatically advance to regionals. In a late roster decision, Jenne entered Jacob Jenne and Morgan Allen as the Wolverines’ No. 2 doubles team.
“I think they stand a better chance of advancing further at this point,” Shaun Jenne said.
Jacob Jenne and Allen will face West Lincolnton’s No. 3 doubles team, which has an 0-6 record. In singles play, Ethan Jenne will face Lincolnton’s No. 6 seed (2-6 record) while Isaac Hodges will face Shelby’s No. 3 seed (0-9).
“It looks very promising for all our top six to make it to regionals,” Shaun Jenne said.
Polk County will close out the regular season Wednesday with a makeup match against Madison at the Mars Hill Recreation Center.
State team playoff pairings will be announced Friday.
Despite dropping two close matches recently, the Wolverines have maintained strong team chemistry.
“We might have lost two matches, but there was no shortage of team spirit and fun,” Shaun Jenne said. “The Wolverine men’s tennis team has really developed into a close friend and family-like team. So glad to see it.”
