Morgan Allen and Isaac Hodges won a tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles to give Polk County a dramatic 5-4 victory over Owen in Friday’s Western Highlands Conference boys tennis match in Swannanoa.
The match came down to the final doubles court, with all players gathered around as Allen and Hodges edged their opponents 9-8 in a tiebreaker to secure the win for the Wolverines.
Owen took a 4-2 lead by winning four of six singles matches. Luke Florence defeated Charlie Wagoner 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Silas Krask beat Harris Windsor 7-6, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, Daniel Shirk topped Ethan Jenne 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 singles, and Theo Price defeated Hodges 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.

Jacob Jenne gave Polk County its first point with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Seta Cerda at No. 3 singles, and Allen added the second point with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Keegan Barry at No. 5 singles.
The Wolverines rallied in doubles play. Jacob and Ethan Jenne defeated Cerda and Jack Clark 8-2 at No. 2 doubles to cut Owen’s lead to 4-3. Wagoner and Windsor then won a tight 8-6 match over Florence and Krask at No. 1 doubles to tie the match at 4-4, setting up the decisive final doubles match.
Polk County (2-2, 2-2 WHC) travels to Mountain Heritage on Friday.
Owen fell to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
