Polk County’s conference debut proved a successful one Thursday, the Wolverines thumping East Rutherford 7-2 in Mountain Foothills 7 Conference boys tennis action in Bostic.
The Wolverines (4-1, 1-0) won five of the six singles matches to clinch their first MF7 victory before the start of doubles play.
Among those singles wins was an 0-6, 7-5, 10-6 (tiebreaker) victory for Jack Smith at No. 2 singles, rallying from the rough first set to force the match to a 10-point tiebreaker.
“A really good win today,” said Polk County head coach Richard Davis. “A great effort by all the singles players, but particularly Jack Smith. Jack played an extraordinarily good tiebreaker to come out the victor against a very good opponent.”
Polk County is slated to be back in action on Monday, hosting Hendersonville in a 4 p.m. conference match.
