Polk County netters continue success with win over East Henderson
Polk County’s boys tennis team continued its winning ways on Monday, defeating East Henderson 6-3 in a non-conference home match.
The Wolverines improved to 6-1 with the win. Polk County travels Tuesday to Mountain Heritage with an opportunity to clinch the Western Highlands Conference regular-season championship with a win.
Matias Akers and Andy Ballentine notched singles wins at No. 2 and No. 3 to lead the Wolverines, with Jack Smith at No. 4 and Gaige Lewis at No. 6 also recording victories.
Polk County then sealed the match in doubles as Ballentine and Smith won at No. 2 and Lewis and Luke Becker claimed a win at No. 3.
“A really good win today against a very good opponent,” said Polk County head coach Richard Davis. “East Henderson is currently in second place in its conference and is much better than they’ve been in a while.
“I’m extremely proud of the grit that we showed in several matches being able to come out on top.”
