Polk County gets bye in 1A boys tennis playoffs

Polk County’s boys tennis team will open state 1A playoff action on May 7, per brackets released Monday by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association.

As the top seed from the Western Highlands Conference, Polk County received a first-round bye in the pre-determined brackets.

The Wolverines are set to face either Bishop McGuinness (13-0) or Community School of Davidson (7-3) in the second round. The Wolverines would host CSD, but would have to travel to face Bishop McGuinness as both teams are No. 1 seeds and the Villains have a higher winning percentage.

Polk County finished the regular season with a 9-4 record. Wolverines Ryan Heider, Henry Heider and Adam Kehrer will compete in the 1A West Regional tournament beginning Friday.
