Polk avenges earlier loss to Mountain Heritage with 7-2 triumph

Polk County avenged an earlier loss to Mountain Heritage with a 7-2 victory in Friday’s Western Highlands Conference boys tennis match in Burnsville.

The Wolverines won four of six singles matches and swept all three doubles matches to reverse the result from their 7-2 loss to the Cougars earlier this season.

Charlie Wagoner defeated Kevin Fernandez 10-4 at No. 2 singles, Jacob Jenne defeated Emmett Oesch 10-5 at No. 3, Morgan Allen defeated Niko Theodorides 10-5 at No. 4, and Ethan Jenne defeated Oscar North 10-6 at No. 5.

Mountain Heritage won at No. 1 singles, where Adrian Melecio defeated Harris Windsor 10-2, and at No. 6, where Josh Fernandez defeated Isaac Hodges 10-3.

In doubles play, Windsor and Wagoner defeated Melecio and K. Fernandez 8-2 at No. 1. The Jenne brothers won 9-8 at No. 2 over Shaw Freeman and Gray Freeman, and Allen and Hodges defeated Asher Rule and Lucas Cox 8-3 at No. 3.

Polk County (3-2, 3-2 WHC) hosts Thomas Jefferson Classical on Monday for a non-conference match.

Mountain Heritage fell to 4-5 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
