Polk County’s boys tennis team closed its regular season Wednesday with a heartbreaking 5-4 loss at Madison.

The Wolverines end their season with a 3-6 record and will learn their 3A state playoff fate on Friday. Polk County is expected to receive a first-round bye and will likely be on the road for its second-round match.

Wednesday’s match could not have been much closer. Madison won tiebreakers to claim two single matches, then took two of three doubles matches to take the victory.
