Polk County senior Grant Waddell returns a shot to Hendersonville’s Gray Capps during Thursday’s match

Polk County’s boys team showed its potential Thursday, nearly upending Hendersonville in a 5-4 home loss.

The Wolverines (1-2) dropped a 6-2 decision to the Bearcats in their season opener, but needed to win two doubles matches Thursday to record the victory.

“Just starting to come together a little bit,” said Polk County head coach Richard Davis. “I truly believe we can improve to an even higher level with a bit more work.”

Jack Smith and Jared Searcy each won their singles matches and teamed to win No. 3 doubles to lead Polk.
