Polk County senior Ryan Heider completed a dominant run through the 1A West Regional on Saturday, winning the first boys regional singles title in school history in Elkin.

Heider, the top seed in the tournament, defeated Pine Lake Prep’s Tyler Ramanata 6-0, 6-2 in the championship match.

Heider reached the final with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Pine Lake’s Davis Cohen in the semifinals earlier Saturday.

Undefeated in singles competition in his Polk County career, Heider will begin play in the state 1A tournament on Friday in Cary. He is the first Wolverine to compete in the state tourney since Zach High in 2008.

Heider will also be part of Polk County’s second-round match on Tuesday in the state 1A dual team playoffs as the Wolverines travel to face undefeated Bishop McGuinness.
