Doubles wins push Polk to conference victory at Patton

Polk County took two of three doubles matches Tuesday to secure a 5-4 win over Patton in a Mountain Foothills 7 Conference boys tennis match in Morganton.

The Wolverines improved to 7-3 overall, 5-3 in conference play. Patton fell to 4-7, 3-5.

How it happened: The Panthers dropped an 8-1 decision at Polk County earlier this season, but delivered a solid effort Tuesday in singles play, picking up three wins to split those matches.

Polk’s McClain Koistinen had a key win for the Wolverines at No. 6 singles, taking a 7-3 tiebreaker in the second set to avoid a tiebreaker to decide the match.

The Wolverines then picked up an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles from Banks Barber and Riley Ballentine and an 8-1 triumph at No. 3 doubles from Charlie Jackson and David Amitrano to claim the victory.

Next up: Polk County is set to host Hendersonville on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in a key conference matchup that could help decide the league’s second playoff qualifier.
