Polk County’s boys tennis team secured a hard-fought 5-4 victory over Brevard in Mountain Foothills 7 Conference action Monday, claiming all three doubles matches to seal the win after trailing in singles play.
The Wolverines improved to 3-2 on the season with the road victory.
Banks Barber led Polk County with a solid performance at No. 1 singles, defeating Brevard’s Luke McLaughlin 6-1, 6-0. Harris Windsor added another point for the Wolverines with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 5 singles over Christian Girolamo.

Brevard claimed the remaining four singles matches, with Aiden Winkler defeating Riley Ballentine 6-3, 7-5 at No. 2, Braden Boswell topping Charlie Wagoner 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3, and Paxton Smith winning 6-2, 6-3 over Morgan Allen at No. 4. In a thrilling No. 6 contest, Brevard’s Luca Gugino prevailed over Grayson Meyer in a tiebreaker, 1-6, 6-1, 12-10.
Facing a 4-2 deficit heading into doubles, Polk County responded with a clean sweep. The tandem of Wagoner and Ballentine defeated McLaughlin and Boswell 8-5 at No. 1 doubles, while Barber paired with Meyer to secure an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles over Winkler and Smith. Windsor and Allen completed the comeback with a narrow 9-7 victory at No. 3 doubles against Girolamo and Banks.
Brevard dropped to 2-4 on the season following the conference match.
The Wolverines return to action Tuesday, hosting R-S Central in another Mountain Foothills 7 Conference matchup scheduled for 4 p.m.
